On my what now appears to be weekly visits to the MAC Cosmetics store I felt inspired to try out a different range of lipsticks and my eye was caught by the MAC Sheen Supreme range. I have used a couple of shades before but I thought I would give them another go and I’m glad I did. After working my way through all the available colours I selected three to run a field trial on (good excuse for putting a face on in other words). My initial impressions were that they are very moisturising and creamy. I never thought that with those aspects it would stay so long on the lips! In general they lasted around six hours on my lips with 80% of the colour, around a further three more hours with a light colour which is pretty impressive I think. The shades are also very pigmented and quite a depth and hue about them. So lets go into a little details about the colours I selected:
Shade – Full Speed
If like me you like wearing pinks, reds, and corals then this a shade you should consider. It is almost like all of these colors are blended in one shade. It may sound scary but the color is nothing short of beautiful and was flattering to my skin tone which i like, because some bright tones / colours of lipstick tend to wash lighter tones out this one adds a bit of warmth. As with all the colours in this range it applies in a creamy moisturizing manner with rich pigment. I liked the shine also it meant I could spare the lip gloss. This is one of my favorite colours in this range. So this colour will be going into my vast make-up collection for sure.
Shade – Bare Again
Finding great bright colours for evenings out is not a real challenge, however finding a shade that is discrete but noticeable can be a little more of a challenge as they normally end up fairly washed out. Bare Again can be best described as a medium rosy pink color that adds the most amazing glossy shine onto your lips that make them look luscious and so kissable if thats not to far to go? This is fast becoming my go to shade for a day time look and the customers at our Dressing Service appear to be as enthusiastic about it as I do. I have used it in conjunction with a “Nude” shade lip liner to give a more controlled and defined outline to the lip.
Shade – Go To Bed
OK it would not be the same if we did not take a look and everyone’s desire the perfect red lip. I must admit I think the name of this shade is spot on because its such a desirable shade of red and adds to any girls pout appeal. As with all the lipsticks in the Sheen Supreme range I do not feel the need to apply a lip prep and prime before application as they are so moist and easy to apply. I found with this shade that a two coat approach was better i.e apply blot and re-apply it adds a little more depth to an already strong red.
Everyone has their own lip routine mine is very straight forward:-
- Brush over lips with an old tooth brush to remove any old skin and plump them up a little the action of brushing stimulates the blood flow a little.
- Normally I apply MAC Lip Prep and Prime, however with this range I think it has enough of a moisturizing effect so i passed on that stage.
- Apply a slightly darker lip liner around my lip contour, I always go slightly outside my line for a fuller lip. Once I have a strong lip I will feather it in using A MAC 263 brush, this defines the lip to perfection.
- Apply the lip stick using a MAC 316 or 318 lip brush. Where required for additional depth I have blotted the lipstick with a tissue and re-applied the colour.
