Shopping can be frustrating at the best of times, especially if you have larger than average feet, or don’t usually fit ‘standard’ sized clothes.

But it’s made all the more annoying when you find your size varies from shop to shop. We’ve all been there, where you’re one size in one retailer, and two sizes up or down in the next. And it’s no different with shoes.

The Mirror recently explained why this happens though (not that it makes it any less frustrating). According to the newspaper, it’s down to the moulds used to make our shoes.

Until around 15 years ago, the moulds that made our shoes were made in British factories to a standard size, which meant shoes were all produced to the same sizes, regardless of which retailer they were for.

However, the majority of shoe production has now shifted to Asia, where standard sized moulds aren’t used.

Speaking to the news provider, consultant podiatrist from The College of Podiatry Matthew Fitzpatrick commented: “As demand for cheap fashion has increased, each company cuts its own individual moulds explaining why there is such a variation on the high street.”

If you’re looking for crossdressing footwear your search can therefore be even more challenging – but that’s why specialist retailers like Translife are ideal, because we cater for larger sized feet.

In fact, one stage star recently said that shoes are vital for performing in drag, because the right shoes will “inform your walk”. Raj Ghatak told The Stage that you’ve got to get the right balance when it comes to the height of your heel so that you can still walk and dance comfortably without compromising the overall look.
