Wig Colour Guide

How selecting the right shade of hair makes all the difference

The right wig colour can enhance your skin tone, brighten your complexion and create a more natural appearance. Understanding wig shades makes finding your perfect look simple and enjoyable.

Why Choosing the Right Wig Colour Matters

Selecting the right wig colour can completely transform your appearance. The perfect shade will complement your skin tone, enhance your eye colour and create a more natural, flattering look. Whether you prefer subtle, natural tones or bold fashion colours, choosing the right colour can boost your confidence and help you achieve the feminine style you’re looking for. Understanding wig colour terminology and colour blends makes it much easier to find a wig you’ll love wearing.

The complete wig colour guide

You will find wigs described either via a number shade for example 1=black or a descriptive “name” such as chocolate brown which invokes a shade but as with all thing we all have a varying interpretation of the colour/shade in question. That is why the term strawberry blonde for example can and aften is interpreted slightly differently by different wig manufacture’s. At Translife we mainly use the internationally recognised number colouring system. This wig colour guide is a great starting point to finding your perfect shade.

tips for choosing your wig colours

Need help?

Our friendly team are here to help you find the perfect colour match.

If someone walks into my studio and asks me to choose just one wig that is likely to suit them, I almost always reach for a shoulder-length layered wig. It flatters nearly every face shape, is easy to maintain and gives enough length to style without becoming difficult to manage. I always find that blonde highlighted shades also flatter the face.

My Top Tips

  • Longer doesn’t always mean more feminine.
  • Curly wigs appear shorter than straight wigs of the same measured length.
  • Layered styles usually look shorter than blunt cuts.
  • Consider your height as well as your face shape.
  • If you’re buying your first wig, shoulder length is often the safest choice.
  • Think about how much time you’re willing to spend styling and maintaining your wig.
